Review of Morning Glory
Released: March 8, 2011
6 out of 5 smirks
Notable Actors: Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton
Synopsis:“For Becky (Rachel McAdams, "The Notebook"), running a TV show in New York City was the big break she dreamed of…until star co-anchors Mike (Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones) and Colleen (Diane Keaton, "Something’s Gotta Give") declare an all-out, on-air war. Making the show work with its cast of eccentric characters and outrageous story angles will take a major miracle, but Becky is ready to rise and outshine. From the writer of "The Devil Wears Prada" and "27 Dresses", "Morning Glory" is a “Tart, terrific comedy*” that critics rave is, “Smart! Fresh! Brilliant! Heartwarming! Morning Glory has it all!*” *Peter Travers , Rolling Stone **Neil Rosen, NY1”
Morning Glory is perhaps an underrated movie that the masses did not accept because it wasn’t at their intensity for comedy, romance, drama, etc. I found Morning Glory to be a light at the end of a tunnel beckoning me to watch it. I watch it and fell in love. I fell in love with dreams and hope. I fell in love with finding a way in life. And I fell in love with finding a home away from home. Morning Glory made me feel better, almost relieved, about where my life is headed and I know that every time I watch this movie, I will be able to feel this intense emotion of wanting what I want and going for it (even if it means moving away from those I care about). The great thing for me about movies is their ability to make me feel a part of something bigger than myself, to motivate me to do what I can for my life, and to make these unbelievable characters that I would so have drinks with. Morning Glory is a movie like this, I highly recommend owning it because it will show you that not all movies have to be funny or drama filled the entire time to hold your interest. Some movies are just there to open your eyes and make you smile. I give Morning Glory 6 smirks because this movie made me fall in love with movies all over again and not many movies out there can do that.On July 17, 2011 I fell in love. I fell in love with movies all over again. Normally, this blog is not so focused on movie reviews as it is on books. That being said however, things from now on might change because there are many movies, TV shows, and music I would love to talk about with those who are willing to read. My point is I fell in love with movies again today. I watched a truly spectacular movie about growing up and finding a family in the most unlikely place, in a job. I felt my hope soar as I watched this woman do her job in her own nutty way which was actually somewhat awkward and graceful at the same time. I watched actors I have admired for the longest time become more to me in this movie than they have in any other. And most importantly, this movie gave me faith in myself as I am soon approaching a crossroads in my life where I have to decide what I want and how I want to get there.

Killers
Review of Killers starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl; Directed by Robert Luketic
Premiered: June 4, 2010
4 out of 5 smirks
Synopsis: “While traveling with her parents in the French Riviera, Jen Kornfeldt meets the man of her dreams, the dashing, handsome Spencer Aimes. Three years later, she and Spencer are newlyweds living the ideal suburban life -- that is, until the morning after Spencer's 30th birthday when bullets start flying. Literally. It turns out Spencer never bothered to tell Jen he's also an international super-spy, and now Jen's perfect world has been turned upside down. Faced with the fact that her husband is a hit man, Jen is determined to discover what other secrets Spencer might be keeping.”
Killers is a hilarious movie starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. Spencer (Kutcher) is a sexy ex spy whose work all of a sudden comes back to put a price on his head. All the while Jen (Heigl) Spencer’s wife has no idea who her husband really is after finding him fighting to the death in their sweet suburban neighborhood. Witty banter, funny jokes/actions, and a loveable, playful couple who are not as boring as they think is what Killers is all about.
Killers takes you on a wild adventure about fighting for your life and how yours in-laws maybe really out to get you after all. This movie was well worth the price of going to the actual theater. It was a non-stop laugh riot; so much so I had tears in my eyes. Is it worth seeing in theaters? Yes. Will I own it on DVD? Most likely. 4 smirks was given because in my opinion it could have used more explosives…what? It was in part an action movie, just sayin’.

Dear John
Review of Dear John with Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried; Directed by Lasse HallstromPremiered: February 5, 2010
3 out of 5 smirks

Over the next seven tumultuous years, the lovers, separated by John's increasingly dangerous deployment, stay in touch through their letters, meeting in person only rarely. Dear John,
I wish you didn’t rip my heart from my chest and then put it back in with a bad patch job. I have to recognize that there have been some good books turned into movies and one other that I know of by Nicholas Sparks. I respect Sparks for writing love stories as a man, but seriously it always just end with me bawling my eyes out because the love story was written wrong (in this reviewer’s opinion). If you see this movie or buy it, be prepared for two people to die, one person to make you think he’s dead, a girl with a big heart who never says no, and a very adorable kid. I like movies that surprise me in the worst and sometimes in the best ways, this movie did that with flying colors. I have to give it 3 smirks on account of the love story, the fact that it surprised me, and for the fact that hunky Channing Tatum was in it (sometimes he was shirtless, yum). Would I buy this movie? It is highly possible. Will I watch this movie like it’s going out of style? Hell no. Will I watch this movie after a hard break up? Yes, please. Should you watch this movie? If you are a girl, you should definitely watch it and if you are a guy trying to get lucky I would recommend you watching it (because watching it with a chick or another guy and pretending or actually crying during it will score you major points).

Remember Me

Review of Remember Me with Rob Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin; Directed by Allen Coulter
Premiered: March 12, 2010
3 out of 5 smirks
Synopsis: "In the romantic drama Remember Me, Robert Pattinson plays Tyler, a rebellious young man in New York City who has a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) ever since tragedy separated their family. Tyler didn’t think anyone could possibly understand what he was going through until the day he met Ally (Emilie de Ravin) through an unusual twist of fate. Love was the last thing on his mind, but as her spirit unexpectedly heals and inspires him, he begins to fall for her. Through their love, he begins to find happiness and meaning in his life. But soon, hidden secrets are revealed, and the circumstances that brought them together slowly threaten to tear them apart. Remember Me is an unforgettable story about the power of love, the strength of family, and the importance of living passionately and treasuring every day of one’s life.” (http://rememberme-movie.com/)
Remember Me fell tragically for me. I got the impression that this movie was going to be a tragic love story, you know with a happy ending. What I got was a flash back to the most horrific day in American history (in my opinion). *Spoiler Alert* The movie takes place over the summer of 2001 and leads up to 9/11, so you be the judge of what happens in the end. I went with my friend, katarinasmama, where we spent the whole time trying to figure out who was going to be in the Towers when the tragedy struck.
I will say that the 3 smirks has to do with the fact the Director Allen Coulter, really took a fantastic, potential love story and stopped it in its tracks. It was a surprise ending for most; however not for me because I was told beforehand what the timeline was and after knowing you can just guess. I have props for the Director though for taking it in a direction no one would guess. I also loved the actors in the movie, but in particular Emilie De Ravin who in my mind will always be Tess from Roswell. In this movie, she made me forget her awful character of Tess and really showed me this great new character Ally. Do I recommend you see this movie? Yes, if you are in the mood to be upset, depressed, and ultimately angry about the outcome. Should you see this movie because of the actors in it? Hell yes.
